Peter Campochiaro, M.D.
Background: Peter Campochiaro, M.D., holds the Eccles Professorship of Ophthalmology at John Hopkins University and has received many awards for the study of the clinical manifestations and pathogenesis of retinal diseases. He has been a principal in clinical trials of surgical therapy and nutrition related to eye disease; his present interests include gene therapy and transplantation treatments for degenerations of the retina. He is the principal investigator on the Wilmer Center Grant from the Foundation Fighting Blindness. He has numerous grants from organizations such as the NIH, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and the American Health Assistance Foundation. Dr. Campochiaro has over 200 publications in top scientific and clinical journals, including work related to novel treatments of retinal disorders involving choroidal neovascularization, proliferative retinopathies, and retinal degeneration. He has served as a consultant for several ocular pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
Jeffrey Heier, M.D.
Background: Jeffrey Heier, M.D., is Assistant Professor, Tufts University School of Medicine, and Clinical Instructor, Harvard Medical School. He is also a vitreoretinal specialist for Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. Dr. Heier was one of the lead investigators of Genentech's MARINA and FOCUS studies and has served as an advisor or consultant to Genentech, Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies, OXiGENE, Jerini, Novartis, iScience Surgical Corp., Genzyme, and Carl Zeiss Meditec. Surgery Branch. Prior to joining the Yale University School of Medicine, he was Vice President for Clinical Affairs at Vion Pharmaceuticals.
Jason Slakter, M.D.
Background: Jason Slakter, M.D., is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon and macular-disease specialist and currently practices at the Vitreous-Retina-Macula Consultants in New York City. In addition, he is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at NYU's School of Medicine and an attending surgeon and Surgeon Director at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital in New York. Dr. Slakter is an internationally recognized retinal specialist whose chief research interests relate to exudative AMD, retinal vascular disease, and central serous chorioretinopathy. He serves on the medical advisory boards of many biotechs and pharmaceutical companies involved in these areas. Dr. Slakter is Editor-in-Chief of Retinal Physician and is on the editorial board of Retina.lina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and is a member of American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Association for Cancer Research.
Richard Spaide, M.D.
Background: Richard Spaide, M.D., is an attending surgeon at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital in New York. He specializes in diseases of the retina and vitreous, and his research interests include macular degeneration, biochemical analysis of lipids in Bruch's membrane, ocular imaging, and intraocular inflammation. Dr. Spaide has published more than 140 articles and book chapters and four books about the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases; and he has developed numerous surgical instruments that were named after him. Dr. Spaide serves on numerous medical advisory boards, and he is a Section Editor of the journal Retina and is on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Ophthalmology.
